Fire Brigade Open Day

Diamond Beach and Rainbow Flat Rural Fire Brigades will be holding an open day event titled “Firies in the Park” at Wylie Breckenridge Park, Blackhead Road, Blackhead on Sunday September 21st from 10am to 12 noon. All local residents and visitors are invited to the open day to see the fire brigades in action and learn how to better protect themselves, their families and homes.

The Brigades are planning a number of demonstrations and displays including a mock motor vehicle accident, a burning gas cylinder drill and a training exercise designed to save crew members if they are caught in a situation where they and their tanker are over run by the fire front.

Also on the programme are sessions on fire extinguishers – which ones to have and how to use them, and a demonstration of what to do if the chip pan catches fire, and even more importantly, what not to do. This part of the open day will be similar to the fire safety day recently run by Diamond Beach Brigade for the businesses in the Hallidays Point area.

The open day will also include activities for children. A colouring in competition for preschool and primary school children will be held with great prizes available. Pictures to colour will be available at the local school and preschool prior to the day and at the open day. Completed pictures should be handed in at the open day prior to the judging at 11.30am. For further information on any aspect of the open day, please contact Brigade Community Safety Officer, Robyn King, on 65592041.

Blackhead Social Triathlon Club

Because of the Forster Anaconda event, the next race of the Blackhead Social Triathlon Club has been brought forward a week, and will be held this Sunday, August 24th.

A 1km swim (pool or ocean) will commence at 7.30am at the Blackhead pool, followed by a 20km bike ride, and then a 6km run.

As this is a social club, there is no entry fee. Men, women and children are all welcome to participate, and participants can choose to compete in all 3 legs, or just one or two. Just turn up at 7.30am on Sunday, and join us for breakfast afterwards at the Blackhead tavern.

It is expected that a number of entrants in the Forster Anaconda will use Sunday’s event as a practice for the Anaconda.
