What’s in a name

Where is Hallidays Point?

Have you ever been to Hallidays Points? According to the Geographic Names Board, Hallidays Point is both the name of a locality and the name of a geographical feature.

Hallidays Point covers the area of, Homestead and Heritage Estates, Ocean Ridge and Happy Hallidays Caravan Park and rural land between. The rock, Hallidays Point is just to the South of Black Head, that is also the name of a geographical feature and a Location.

Hallidays Heights, Hallidays Shores, Hallidays Point Village Centre and Hallidays Point Post Office are all in Black Head, and Black Head Beach B&B is in Hallidays Point. Black Head also takes in James Forster Drive, Baywood Estate and the village of Black Head.

Some sanity prevails: Black Head Beach, Black Head Bowling Club, Black Head Surf Club, Black Head Bazaar Black Head Lagoon have two words but Blackhead Rd is one word.

Red Head has two words to avoid postal confusion with Redhead in Newcastle and Tallwoods had village added to it’s name for similar reasons.

Diamond Beach goes all the way to Satlwater and Idlewoods Estate is in Rainbow Flat

Now where is Hallidays Point again and how do you spell Black Head?
